Seasons change, and autumn arrives.

September

September brings earlier evenings and a noticeable coolness in the air, subtle signs that autumn is settling in. There’s still plenty to keep you busy in the garden, from harvesting ripe fruit and planting bulbs for spring to saving seeds from fading blooms and adding perennials to the borders.

Things to do this month
  • Cover waterways like ponds with netting to collect leaves and other debris which may blow off during autumn.
  • Add fallen tree leaves to the compost heap or a dedicated leaf mould pile.
  • Check that water butts and downpipes are in full working order ahead of wetter weather.
  • Remove unwanted plants and add to compost heap.
  • Raise pots from the ground so that excess water drains from them.
